Spain has many things to see and do, with natural
attractions and a rich culture and history. Its many regions are
have their own particular features. See them all on a self-drive
holiday by hiring a campervan, RV or Motorhome.
The
Mezquita in Cordoba was once the second largest mosque in the
world. Construction started in 784 and continued for over 200
years. In 1236 it was converted into a cathedral. It contains
row after row of archways and pillars. The arches and ceilings
are decorated in exquisite detail.
The
Barrio Santiago area in Guadix contains over a thousand cave
homes. Inside, the cave homes are 19ºC all year round
thanks to their underground location.
The
historic township of Laguardia is the gateway to the Rioja wine
region and an attraction in itself. On a rock foundation, the
town is walled, with four entrance gates and many underground
passageways and tunnels. Make sure this place is on your Motorhome
holiday itinerary.
The
town of Merida is famous for Roman remains, including a theatre
and an amphitheatre.
Palacio
de la Condesa de Lebrija, in Seville, dates back to the 15th
century and contains genuine Roman mosaics. Seville contains
Spain’s largest cathedral, the House of
Pilate, the Royal Palace, a Bullfighting Ring and the Torre del
Oro or Tower Of Gold. Festivals include the Holy Week processions
and April Fair.
On
your Motorhome or campervan holiday, drive down to Andalusia.
The southern region of Andalusia contains Mediterranean beaches,
Mudéjar style architecture, mountains, desert,
the historic city of Ronda, sherry and tropical gardens.
The
Basque region features great food, mountains, ocean beaches and
historic walled villages.
On
your Motorhome or RV vacation, be sure to obey the road rules.
In Spain, traffic drives on the right. Speed limits and blood
alcohol limits are enforced. Seat belts are compulsory.
Before
the campervan holiday is over, take it to Madrid. Madrid features
the Prado Museum, with paintings by many famous artists, including
the collections of Fernando VII and other royals. The Museum
of the Americas contains many artifacts from excavations conducted
during the 18th century. The Royal Palace is a massive complex
featuring many different decorative styles. The Temple of Debod
was donated to Spain by Egypt in 1968. The Retiro Park, formerly
open only to royals, can now be accessed by anyone. Be sure to
visit the plazas.
Road
quality in Spain is variable, but they have 2000km of excellent
tollways; good for travelling long distances on your Motorhome
or campervan holiday.
