RENTAL DURATION:
Minimum rental is 5 days and 10 days for collection / return in Botswana / Zimbabwe. When calculating the number of days, the day of collection is counted as day one of the rental regardless of collection time. The day of return is counted as the final day.
DEPOT HOURS FOR PICK-UP & DROP-OFF:
Britz has branches in Windhoek, Johannesburg, Cape Town, Port Elizabeth, Durban, Maun, Harare and Victoria Falls. Office hours are Monday to Friday from 8h00 to 16h30. Collections and returns on weekends and public holidays by arrangement only. Sunday / Public Holidays collections / returns additional ZAR 300 (~300~).
TRANSFER:
Airport and local hotel transfers for all branches = ZAR 100 (~100~) per transfer. Windhoek is ZAR 200 (~200~) per transfer.
EXCESS REDUCTION OPTION:
Britz offers 3 very competitive excess reduction options for peace of mind during your holiday:
STANDARD COVER: (included in the rate)
If the Standard Cover option is taken, the hirer is liable for the first ZAR 30 000 (~30 000~) damage to a Britz vehicle or third party vehicle / property. The hirer will also be fully liable for the replacement or repair of windscreen and / or radio. The excess of ZAR 30 000 (~30 000~) can be paid by cash, traveller's cheques or credit card (a manual imprint of the credit card will be taken and the amount will have to be authorised by the bank). This is fully refundable on return of the vehicle to the agreed location, on the agreed date, with no damage incurred to the Britz vehicle or thrid party vehicle / property. Hirer is responsible for all tyre damage.
SUPER COVER:
Super Cover at ZAR 190 (~190~), ZAR 210 (~210~) per day (from 01 November 2007) per day for all vehicles will reduce this excess for any damage to either the Britz vehicle or third party vehicl / property to ZAR 15 000 (~15 000~). The option of Super Cover will also waive the excess for replacement or repair of windscreen and / or radio.
Note: hirer is reponsible for all tyre damage.
EXCLUSIVE COVER:
Exclusive Cover at at ZAR 295 (~295~) per day, ZAR 315 (~315~) per day (from 01 November 2007) for all vehicles will reduce the excess for any damage to either the Britz vehicle or third party vehicle / property to ZAR 5000 (~5000~). The option of Exclusive Cover will also waive the excess for replacement or repair of windscreen and / or radio as well as replacing all tyre damages.
EXCLUSIONS:
The hirer will be fully liable for any damage to the Britz vehicle or third party vehicle / property if:
- the terms of the rental contract are breached.
- Damage to the vehicle is caused by careless, wilful or reckless driving.
- Driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
- Driving on restircted roads / areas
In the case of any damage to the Britz vehicle / property a second excess will be collected to cover the excess for any subsequent damage.
ACCIDENTS:
- If the rental vehicle is involved in an accident and is not driveable, a replacement vehicle, if available, may be collected from the closest branch.
- If the hirer requires a replacement vehicle to be delivered, then these charges will be for the hirer’s account. None of the excess reduction options cover this eventuality.
- The hirer is responsible for the recovery of the damaged vehicle to the original rental depot.
- If the hirer is unable or unwilling to take a replacement vehicle, no refunds for early termination of the contract will apply.
- No refund of rental days lost will be considered during the period in which a replacement vehicle is being organised.
- Should there be no replacement vehicle available, no refund for lost rental days will be considered.
- Should the hirer continue with a replacement vehicle then a new rental contract and insurance conditions will apply. Britz reserves the right to apply the above conditions as they deem fit.
EXCLUSIONS:
The hirer will be fully liable for any damage to the Britz vehicle or third party vehicle / property if:
- The terms of the rental contract are breached.
- Damage to the vehicle is caused by careless, wilful or reckless driving..

- Water submersion or salt-water damage is caused. In case of any damage to the Britz vehicle or third party vehicle / property a second excess will be collected to cover the excess for any subsequent damage.
INFRINGEMENTS:
Britz reserves the right to charge the hirer for any speeding or parking fines, associated administration costs and / or accidents including third party vehicle / property damage not reported on the return of the vehicle.
EXCHANGE RATE / CURRENCY VARIATIONS:
All credit card transactions are conducted in South African Rand. Due to exchange rate fluctuations there could be some variance in the amount refunded compared to the amount initially charged. Britz accepts no liability for any variances up or down.
CREDIT CARDS:
If a credit card is presented as payment, the credit card holder will be jointly and severally liable as a customer.
LICENCE:
A valid non-endorsed driver’s licence is required - international licence is preferred.
MINIMUM AGE :
Drivers must be 21 years or older.
MULTIPLE RENTALS:
Multiple rentals can be combined to qualify the hirer for our long-term rate. Motorhome and car rentals in Australia, New Zealand and South Africa can be combined to qualify if travel is within a 3-month period e.g. one 14-day rental plus one 7- day rental qualifies for the 21-day rate.
ROAD RESTRICTIONS:
Vehicles may be taken into South Africa’s neighbouring states but are not allowed into Angola or Malawi. All insurance cover is void if vehicles enter prohibited areas. Britz reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to restrict vehicle movements in certain areas due to adverse road or weather conditions, political situations or any other reason.
REPAIRS :
Repairs of up to ZAR 1000 (~1000~) may be effected without authorization and will be reimbursed upon presentation of receipts. When over ZAR 1000 (~1000~) we need to be contacted for authorisation.
CHANGE OF VEHICLE:
Britz reserves the right to substitute a comparable or superior vehicle should the requested vehicle not be available due to unforeseen circumstances. This shall not constitute a breach of contract and does not entitle the hirer to any refund.

14% VAT is included in gross rates. Above prices are subject to change in accordance with changes in government taxes.

No pets are permitted in our vehicles.
