DEPOTS Windhoek - Johannesburg - Cape Town - Port Elizabeth - Durban - Maun - Harare - Victoria Falls
Maui can draw you close to the enthralling experiences which bring people back to Southern Africa's exceptional game reserves and national parks year after year. Be intoxicated by the beauty and wildness of the place. The smell of jasmine and moon flower - the sight and sounds of elephants, lions, rhino, leopards, buffalo, kudu, sable, giant eagle owls, goshawks, pythons, hippos, meercats, ostriches, hyena's, wildebeest and more.
But this continent has so much more than wild beasts and rich varied flora. The tourist trade is geared up to provide you magical experiences of the stunning scenery, the affluent modern cities, and the colourful cultures. The contrasts are spectacular. The life: From a night in a beehive hut, to a night in a casino.
From watching vibrant indigenous African women lament and celebrate in shuffling dance and song under the stars, to watching stars on stage in a world class theatre. From art galleries to ancient bushman paintings and early-man sites. From avante garde sculptures to saw-toothed mountain peaks and geological wonders. From dust and dirt to diamonds, gold, and semi precious stones. The scenery: Panoramic bushveldt that stretches into purple horizons, desert fields of brilliant flowers, velvet mountain grasslands, dramatic escarpments, rocky shores and smoking white sand dunes, verdant winelands and wheatlands, thundering rivers and waterfalls, magnificent tropical beaches.
And if that's not enough of a lure - remember that apart from game and bird watching -there are unlimited opportunities for climbing, hiking, whale-watching, white water rafting, deep sea fishing, scuba diving, sailing and a host of other watersports and exciting outdoor adventures.

Safe on the Road:
With secure Maui transport and guidance, anyone can safely explore this enthralling country. Motorhome and 4WD travel is one of the most enjoyable ways of seeing this vast region. The long, straight, almost empty main roads are a sheer pleasure to drive. Southern Africa has Africa's best, most comprehensive network of established primary and secondary roads, though rural roads are mostly untarred and require extra vigilance. It's here you need to be prepared for hazards. We will advise you, and equip you well, so you can make informed driving plans.
Most of all, travellers are unaware of the sheer distances from one destination to the next on this huge continent. Check with us for the time required to travel to the places of your choice. You should not plan on driving more than 300 kilometres a day, and fill up on petrol/diesel before it gets too low - distances between petrol stations in more remote areas can be considerable.
Here are a few tips:
- Keep up to date maps handy.
- Monitor weather and road conditions.
- To avoid stray animals, we suggest you don't drive at night.
- Avoid driver fatigue. Take regular two hour breaks and avoid driving more than 5 hours a day.
- Never exceed 60 km/h on unsealed or gravel roads.
Climate:
The climate is perfect for motorhome and camping travel, with plenty of sunshine and warm balmy evenings. Seasons are the opposite of those in Europe and North America. Generally it is sunny and pleasant even in the mild winters. Average daily temperatures are evenly spread throughout the country at between 21° C and 30° C - though it can soar above this in some areas. Summer is beach time; autumn and spring are best for walking; winter is best for white water rafting and canoeing in Zimbabwe (when the rivers are high) and for game watching in the bushveld when the cover is sparse.
